Assault charge pair sent for crown trial
TWO men accused of assault are to have their case dealt with at crown court.
Kyle Lackland and Ryan Todd are accused of attacking two men during a night out in South Shields in October.
One of the alleged victim’s was Todd’s mother’s ex-partner.
The pair both face a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Todd, 21, of Dunlop Crescent, South Shields, is also charged with assault by beating.
Neither entered pleas during a hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, and, because of the serious nature of the allegations, magistrates declined jurisdiction and asked for it to be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court.
Todd and Lackland, 21, of Reginald Street, Boldon Colliery, will reappear before magistrates on April 12, when the charges will be formally transferred to Newcastle Crown Court.
Both were granted bail on the conditions that they live at the addresses given in court, do not contact prosecution witnesses, and do not enter South Shields town centre between 7pm and 7am.
