A TOTAL of £21,000 and counting!

The Gazette’s c/o St Clare’s campaign has reached another milestone.

With the help of our readers, we have now raised a staggering £21,028 to help St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow overcome a major cash crisis.

The campaign was launched in November in a bid to help the hospice in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, which provides palliative care to people in South Tyneside with life-limiting illnesses.

It has annual running costs of £2m – £1.4m of which it must raise itself.

But this year it is facing a £50,000 shortfall, and the Gazette and its readers are bidding to plug the gap.

The money raised so far has been made through generous donations and events organised by readers and those who have been helped by the hospice.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the hospice has cared for thousands of local people.

But now it is St Clare’s which needs help.

Gazette editor John Szymanski said: “We have now hit another milestone in our campaign to help the hospice get over a particularly tricky period in their finances.

“I urge people to bear them in mind and keep that money coming in so the hospice can continue to do so much good work in our community for those affected by cancer.”

St Clare’s fundraising manager, Marie Watson, said: “This is a fantastic milestone and we’re all extremely pleased to have reached it.

“We’re so thankful to everyone who has donated or organised fundraising events to help raise money for the hospice.

“We rely heavily on the help of the public, if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be here.”
