Ian’s business plan is picture perfect
ON THE BUTTON ... Ian Berry is launching a new photography business in South Shields.
A SOUTH Tyneside photographer is getting in the frame for business success after launching a portrait studio in his home town.
Ian Berry is returning to his first love after creating a studio in East Street, South Shields.
After plying his trade as a photographer on cruise ships for a number of years, and later working in finance, Mr Berry decided he wanted to return home and establish himself as a portrait photographer.
Mr Berry, 32, who studied and gained qualifications in photography at Newcastle College, said: “After working as a photographer in the Mediterranean on various cruise ships, I sort of got sidetracked after giving up photography in 2004.
“I then got involved in corporate sales and finance, but after experiencing redundancy a few times, I made the decision to go back to my first love.
“I’ve spent between £5,000 and £6,000 on revamping a former hairdresser’s in East Street, which has been closed for several years.
“I had a mobile photography business for a while, but this means I now have a permanent base, which will be open Monday to Saturday.
“Framed examples of my work will be on the walls for customers to see the kind of pictures I take, and I intend to do wedding and portrait photography.
“I already have eight or nine weddings lined up, and a dozen or so people are waiting for portraits, once the studio is open.”
A member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP), Mr Berry aims to cover most of the North East from his South Shields studio.
Called Ian Berry Photography, the new business is set to open on Monday.
