Hopes rising that store can be saved
HOPES ... that a buyer may be found for Peacocks.
HOPES are rising that a buyer will be found for a South Tyneside clothing store.
National fashion chain Peacocks has a store in the Viking Centre, Jarrow.
The company collapsed and administrators were called in last week, putting its 563 stores across the UK at risk.
But administrators KPMG say there has been “huge interest” from potential buyers for the company.
Fashion chain Bonmarche, which is part of the collapsed Peacock Group, has been sold as part of a deal that will lead to 1,400 job losses and 160 store closures.
Private equity firm Sun European Partners has bought the national women’s clothing retailer for an undisclosed sum.
Bonmarche has stores in the Viking Centre, Jarrow, and King Street, South Shields, but the company has so far not released details of which stores are to shut.
KPMG has already announced 249 redundancies from Peacocks’ head office in Cardiff. The administrators have set a deadline of Monday for potential bids.
