COUNCIL bosses are planning to bring jobs to the borough by offering free office space in one of the most prestigious business developments in the region.

One existing firm and one start-up business are being offered a year’s free accommodation in the new One Trinity Green development, due to open in South Shields later this year together with a cash prize of £5,000 and professional support.

One Trinity Green, on the site of the former Circatex factory in Eldon Street, South Shields, will provide managed workspace and business support for new and growing companies in the low carbon and green sector.

South Tyneside Council has launched a competition to give two firms a new home

Coun Ed Malcolm, the council’s lead member for resources and innovation, said: “These are excellent prizes for two companies and will bring new jobs and opportunities to the borough.

“It is a superb development, which will attract new businesses operating in the low carbon and environmental sectors.

“It will encourage people from all over the region to start their businesses here in South Tyneside and, once established, these companies will receive all the support they need to grow and evolve. That will bring jobs and create exciting employment opportunities for locals.”

One Trinity Green is a new three-storey building which has state-of-the-art environmental energy systems and is due to open in June.

It will offer 41 office, workshop and hybrid units with extensive support services in 2,200 sq metres of high-quality accommodation.

The council is developing the project with environmental organisation, Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle.

Coun Malcolm, who represents the Simonside and Rekendyke ward, added: “One Trinity Green will serve as a focal point in the overall plan for the regeneration of the area.

“It will complement other nearby developments such as the carbon negative housing scheme at Reed Street, proposed housing at Trinity South and the multi-million pound BT business centre and park on Harton Quay.

For information about the competition to win a business start-up package, call Richard Fishwick at the council’s economic growth team on 424 6262.

They should put a wind turbine on the roof. See if they can keep the lights on 247?.... Nope.

Green initiatives are for folk who are green. I am not one of them. Stuff your green twaddle. The planet Earth is a living organism and can deal with all such stupidity.
