Tamzin’s title tussle in battle of beauties

FORMER South Tyneside College student Tamzin Cummings is going head to head in a battle of the beauties.
The 21-year-old, who was the Gazette’s Face of 2007, is in the running to be the next Miss Sunderland.
And Tamzin, who held the title in 2010, is up against reigning Miss Sunderland Philippa Attle, 18.
People will vote for their winner, who will then go onto compete for the Miss England title.
Organisers have changed this year’s format because of the reorganisation of the Miss England final, which has been brought forward due to the Olympics.
Tamzin, who was the most successful Miss Sunderland, coming fourth in Miss England, went on to compete in World Miss University in South Korea.
The Sunderland University student said: “I’m good friends with Pip so it’s a funny situation, but it should be good fun.
“I’d never turn down a good opportunity and this is another chance to represent my city, which I love doing.
“Competing in Miss England opened so many doors for me. I’ve had the chance to travel and I’ve met some great friends.”
Philippa added: “It’s a great opportunity to go back to the Miss England final.
“I learnt so much from the last final, and gained a lot from it. It really boosted my confidence.
“I would love to go to next year’s final.”
Despite the head-to-head battle, a Miss Sunderland final will still take place as normal at Rainton Meadows Arena on May 19.
The winner will compete as Miss Sunderland in the Miss England contest in 2013.
