Review: Seussical The Musical, Customs House, South Shields

Gilbert and Sullivan Society's Seussical the Musical

Brian Jordan as the Cat in the Hat

Gilbert and Sullivan Society's Seussical the Musical Brian Jordan as the Cat in the Hat

SEUSSICAL is fun, colourful and wacky – the perfect family night out.

This production, by the South Shields Gilbert and Sullivan Society, is based on the books of Dr Seuss.

It tells the story of Horton the Elephant (Michael Mather), who finds a speck of dust on which the world of Who exists.

Mather was fantastic as the helpful Horton, who makes it his mission to keep the Whos safe, but is ridiculed by the other creatures in the Jungle of Nool.

The Cat in the Hat (Brian Jordan) was wonderful in his role as the narrator, delighting children with his magic tricks and funny faces.

Ellie Guillory was brilliant as love-struck bird Gertrude McFuzz, with songs that melted the hearts of audience members.

Young Rhiane Finley, who played JoJo, is definitely one to watch. With a big voice and huge talent, she’s a rising star.

Mayzie La Bird (Ashley Lamb) and the Bird Girls added a touch of glamour to the show, and the music, which covered just about every genre, was infectious.

With great songs, dance moves, costumes, vocals, and a huge amount of talent, Seussical is a must-see for any musical fan.

It runs until Saturday.
