End of the road for Minnie and the Victors
SOLO HOPES ... Minnie, lead singer from Minnie and the Victors, is going it alone.
A POPULAR South Tyneside blues band are signing off.
Minnie and the Victors have spent three years building a formidable live reputation in the UK, playing festivals and high-profile gigs in respected music clubs.
But tomorrow night, the band plays in the borough for the last time for the foreseeable future.
They will perform at the Robin Hood in Primrose Hill, Jarrow, at 7pm, supported by young Hebburn singer-songwriter Annabel Pattinson.
The members hope the break is not permanent, however.
Lead singer Minnie, from Jarrow, said: “We’re taking a break this year, so that I can focus on solo work.
“I’ve got 10 songs almost finished and am in the process of getting a backing band.
“There are some gigs booked in Edinburgh and Dublin as well as local venues.
“I wanted to focus on my solo work and felt it was right to give the Victors a rest.
“We have been gigging for three years in England, Scotland and Ireland and have played some amazing festivals, but I have missed writing my own songs.
“The gig in the Robin Hood should be brilliant. We’re looking forward to giving our fans a cracking send-off.
“The support we’ve had from friends and family over the years has been brilliant.”
The singer, who keeps her real identity a secret as lots of her friends and family don’t know she is in a band, is co-writing her new material with Minnie and the Victors guitarist, Papa Stamps, and Lee Wright, from Jarrow punk band Crashed Out.
The 35-year-old has also made it through to the final of local beauty contest, the Alternative Model of the Year, in October. Read more about that here

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:00 AMCan't understand why she would want to keep it a secret from her friends and family that she's in a band - surely you would want as much support as possible? Unless the band's rubbish and she's embarrassed of course!
