Album review: Sleigh Bells - Reign Of Terror
SLEIGH BELLS ... Reign Of Terror (Sony)
THIS is the sophomore outing for the noisy Brooklyn duo, whose innovative melding of summery synthpop and vicious hardcore worked wonders on excellent 2010 debut Treats.
By comparison, Reign Of Terror is far less direct and immediate, placing the emphasis on their poppier tendencies, as opposed to inflicting damage upon your hifi’s speakers.
It does take a little getting used to, but once you’re over the sheer melodicism of it all, this is a record which ends up being pretty similar in overall quality to its predecessor.
It’s certainly a more consistent outing, with a definite improvement in certain aspects of their sound, most notably Alexis Krauss’s sugary sweet vocals.
It’s not quite as good as many had hoped for, but if nothing else this is an album which should ensure they remain streets ahead of all the other boy/girl duos out there. 7/10. AW
