BIG COUNTRY ... The Crossing Deluxe Edition (Universal Music).
THIS lavish reissue marks the 30th anniversary of the debut which introduced the Scottish rockers’ much-maligned ‘bagpipe-guitar’ sound.
The latest line-up (minus the sadly-missed Stuart Adamson) is touring the album - they’re at the O2 Academy in Newcastle tonight - and it’s fair to say that all this time after its release, it’s time for this to be recognised as a classic.
The singles Fields Of Fire, In A Big Country and Chance are the songs everyone will know, but The Storm, Porrohman and Lost Patrol show the band’s real class.
This package comes with B-sides, demos, different mixes and a couple of unreleased songs.
Essential for fans, and still worth a listen for anyone else. 8/10. GW
