A BOOK chronicling the last time Sunderland lifted a major football trophy has been shortlisted for an award.

Stokoe, Sunderland and '73 is one of six books nominated for the Best Football Book Award.

It recalls the team's FA Cup final win over holders Leeds United.

It also details the performance of goal-keeper Jim Montgomery, who inspired the Black Cats to win 1-0.

Author Lance Hardy, a Sunderland fan and former journalist, interviewed fans, the Sunderland players from the game and the family of late manager Bob Stokoe.

This year is the 10th edition of the British Sports Book Awards run by the National Sporting Club.

It will be judged by the Football Writers' Association.
