SOUTH Shields-born director Ridley Scott's 2000 film Gladiator is one of the most bought flicks of the decade.
The Oscar-winning film, starring Russell Crowe, was second behind Mamma Mia! The Movie in the chart of the top sellers of the noughties.

Mamma Mia! sold 5.9 million copies to become the decade's biggest home video – including VHS, DVD and blu-ray sales – ahead of Gladiator and the Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring.

Movie franchises such as Harry Potter and Pirates Of The Caribbean also proved popular.
