SOUTH Shields singer Joe McElderry made a TV appearance this morning urging viewers to help raise money for people suffering in Haiti.
The 18-year-old X Factor winner was on the GMTV sofa promoting the Helping Haiti charity single Everybody Hurts, which is out on CD today.

Joe told presenter Lorraine Kelly he wanted everyone to 'chip in and raise loads of money'.

The Newcastle College student, who sings on the track, told fans on his official website: "I still can't believe I'm on the same record as people like Mariah, Rod Stewart and Leona, it's such an honour!

"I really do hope though that it will help lots of people in Haiti.

"Please, please, please buy a copy of the single when it comes out. It's for a great cause and we all need to help Haiti as much as we can."

The song has already reached the top of the download chart.

Up to 200,000 people died in the magnitude-7 earthquake on January 12, with hundreds of thousands more left injured and homeless.
