Staff from South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust have been joined by their loved ones to make up a 40-strong team to complete a 7,000 mile challenge to raise funds for the Pumping Marvellous Foundation.
Led by Consultant Cardiologist Dr Mickey Jachuck, it is the largest group to sign up to the year-long task, with more than 7,000 miles covered so far and £1,100 collected in the two months since it was launched.

Dr Jachuck said: “Our cardiology team care for many people across the region with heart failure and, although advances in diagnosis and treatment have had a really positive impact, there is still so much more we can do to improve outcomes.
“I have seen first-hand how hard the Pumping Marvellous Foundation works to promote self-care and improve patient pathways, so this was a great way to raise awareness of the condition whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.
“I was a complete non-runner until a couple of years ago and have really noticed the benefits both physically and mentally that regular activity brings.

Nick Hartshorne-Evans, Chief Executive and Founder of Pumping Marvellous Foundation, added: “It didn’t surprise me that the team led by Dr Mickey Jachuck were leading the race.
"Dr Jachuck has been a strong supporter of the Pumping Marvellous Foundation for many years and the whole team’s involvement demonstrates their willingness to support people living with heart failure.”
A page has been set up so people can follow the team’s fundraising efforts and take donations towards their total, with a leader board set up to show who has made up the most miles so far.
