Can you help drum up some names?

editorial image

SMART as paint, aren’t they? How proud they look of who the are and what they do.

But here’s a thing: Can you put names to them, because we know the identity of only one of these young men.

This picture of members of Jarrow Sea Cadet Corps comes from a reader in Derby Street in Jarrow, whose thinks her late husband, Norman Dunlop, is the boy third from the left – X literally marking the spot in this case. Norman would have been 72 next month.

Because of that, Mrs Dunlop thinks that it would have been taken in around 1951.

“But I don’t know the names of the others, but some of your readers my recognise themselves or a family member,” she says.

Get in touch if you do.

* Also thinking back to old times, by the way, is Ronnie Buzzard, now living across on the north side, who is interested in contacting old friends from between 1957 and 1962 at Simonside Junior School; also from around 1967 at Westoe Secondary School in Shields.

If any of you are out there, you can e-mail him at: ronniebuzzard@yahoo.co.uk and he’ll get back to you.
